Alright Bikers, we've all been waiting for it, here it is. The 2x4 MTB Work Stand Kit.
Don't want to spend $140 on a work stand? Me either! I've had this idea for over a year, but have only been 3D modeling/printing since April 2018. So, perfect time to get it done.
I wanted it to be durable, so everything is pretty thick. I used the exact 1.5"x3.5" dimensions for the 2x4's, so some sanding to fit will likely be required, per design, of course.
It has holes to accommodate different sized hitch pins; for those unwilling to spend $5 on one 5/8" hitch pin, $1 3/16" hitch pins will fit. (a combination of tight fitting parts and load distribution should eliminate the need for all screws but two).
Tension beams on the bottom are to help resist the weight transfered to the legs, which will work to push the legs/upright apart and crack the bracket.
The MTB attachment point has a hole for a screw to attach it to the 2x4. It also has two slits, front and back, to loop a velcro strap through, to fasten the bike in place.
All parts have been uploaded in one piece. But ONLY people with bigger build area's will be able to print them (the bottom bracket is ~300mm h x ~225mm w). Well my build area is only around 200x300 or something like that, so I'm breaking the brackets up into printable sizes for everyone (~150mm h x the 2x4 plus 20mm in offsets w). However, I'm still breaking the bottom bracket apart so it is still to come, along with instructions, 2x4 dimensions, and required parts list.
I also want to make a "wishbone" grip to hold a bike from under the seat, still to come.
I'm also thinking about making brackets for a work stool/tray to go along with it. We'll see if I have time to do it though, turned this out in a day, still working on 3 other projects.
**V2 Coming Soon, less plastic**
**UPDATE August 26** Uploaded the big kit in pieces, uploaded a smaller v2, and uploaded a v2.5. Printability and strenght were the two factors...lots of work to catch up on..
