Christmas special full body 1:10 scale pin-up figurine.
Backstory:
Out for a walk in the snow at Christmastime, our protagonist comes across a snowman. Eyes, nose, arms, hat, and scarf, all present and correct, but he has no buttons! Everyone knows a real snowman needs buttons... Casting around she sees that there's no suitable button material nearby, which is presumably why the original builder left our frosty anthropomorph suffering his implied nakedness. The over-sized buttons on her cardigan, however, would be perfect... Well, giving is in the spirit of the season, eh? ...But is two buttons enough?
This model is provided cut and keyed ready for slicing and printing (see print details). The snowman can stand alone.
There are two bases, the model base and the display base. The display base is optional.
Please note that I'm still fairly new to 3D printing, so I'm no expert. Please let me know if you find better ways or have advice!
All STLs are scaled to 1:10, and they are provided in the orientations I used for my successful prints. I printed it on my Flsun Q5, sliced in Cura. The bases and snowman were printed at 0.15mm layer height, and the girl was printed at 0.1mm.
Note that the model is designed to be printable a bit smaller than 1:10 scale. I think it will print OK down to about 60% of the scale provided. The limiting factors will be the snowman's arms and the girl's jacket. I have not test printed it at the smaller scale. The notes below are all from my 1:10 scale test print.
Printing the snowman:
No supports are necessary. Print with the flat bottom on the build plate.
Printing the legs:
I used line supports with support interface for the crotch region and where her shorts meet her leggings at the back. I thought it might be possible to print it without any supports. I used a brim and increased my build plate temperature by 5 degrees for extra adhesion, because it's quite tall and it has a small footprint.
Printing the arm:
I printed it with the elbow touching the build plate for stability, with a brim. The elbow needed a little sanding to minimize the flat spot, but not much. I used line supports with support interface.
Printing the body:
This needs fairly extensive supports. I used line supports with support interface. The supports came off quite well. I was having trouble with my extruder when I printed this, so I had a few failed prints, but it printed nicely once I'd fixed the issue.
Printing the model base:
I printed this standing up on its back, again with line supports with support interface. I wanted to maximize the details of the snow. It will print without supports if you don't mind losing detail and put it flat on the build plate.
Printing the display base:
No supports necessary. Should be completely straightforward. Getting it off the build plate was really difficult though. I ended up using an ice pack to take down the temperature of my glass build plate, which worked nicely.
