Description
Attis wears a Phyrgian cap with two straps descending to the shoulders, a wide-collar tunic fastened with a belt at the waist, trousers, and closed shoes. His right hand holds the wrist of his left hand that in turn holds a cyathus (ritual ladle). The statue was wrongly interpreted due to the presence of the priest's assistant (camillus), and the house is still conventionally referred to as "of the camillus". The presence of the ladle and the modest thickness of the rear pilaster, which is insufficient to support a table, would instead suggest that this statue was a cultic object.
