Description
This fragmented bust depicts Silenus, a human-looking creature with ears and long hair belonging to the procession of Dionysis. The original sculpture was most likely a full-figure standing work.
In his hand he was probably holding one of the typical attributes of the followers of Dionysus: a bunch of grapes, a skin or a libation cup. The less accurate drilling and craftsmanship on the back suggests that the statue was placed in a niche or against a wall.
Found in Padova, the via Cesare Battisti.
