Catapults systems have been used from ancient history to launch something from one point to another, sometimes over the castle and sometimes for hunting purposes.
This is the basic design of Catapult which can be used to teach the school students the basic concepts in physics such as energy conservation (how energy can be stored, transferred, and converted), force, acceleration, parabolic trajectories.
Playing with a catapult system and launching balls at a target can be fun for families or students, and a catapult activity teaches both physics and maths at school level in the way a catapult operates and in how accurate one's aim may be.
The commercially available model cost us around $20 - $35. But using 3D printing technology we can save up to 70%. With this model of the catapult, it will cost you around $8 including all parts. Details of prints are given in the description below.
(Note: You can use any elastic rubber band for tension purposes as shown in images.)
Make sure to print Shaft.stl file in a horizontal orientation in order to get better strength. The rest of the parts can be oriented in any direction as per convenience.
