The Chirodon species comes from a biodiverse planet called Thirio, close to Mother Earth in the Local Group of the Milky Way. It was one of the first planets to be colonised and has been a star attraction ever since due to its interesting wildlife. It's now home to one of the largest Animal Parks in the galaxy, featuring the weird and wonderful creatures from Thirio and other surrounding planets. Even after a lot of parent corporations abandoned the first wave of colony planets for greater profits across the galaxy, it has remained a thriving planet and tourist destination.
Chirodons are one of the big attractions at The Thirio Animal Park due to their impressive displays of agility and prowess, often used in shows to hunt live prey. Unfortunately, their reputation also means there's a big black market trade of young Chirodon, often to train up as ring fighters for underground fight clubs. Chirodon are ferocious but can be mildly domesticated if you acquire them from a young age.
Captain Samuel Swift rescued Krux as a youngling from an alien fight club featuring both creatures like Chirodon and gladiators from the more advanced alien races, usually pitted against each other for huge sums of money. Chirodon are intelligent animals and ever since his rescue, Krux has been a loyal and dangerous companion for the Swift pirate crew, choosing to stay with them and protect them. As a fully grown Chirodon, Krux is a terrifying sight to rival pirate crews, helping to elevate the Swift reputation greatly.
