Description
Materials: Pewter or tin (gilded), velvet. Accession no: CG 084. Current Location: The Hunt Museum, Limerick. This is a European corpus or crucifix figure made from either pewter or tin. The word Corpus means 'body' in latin. The eyes are closed and the feet are nailed together. The nimbus and loin-cloth are gilded. The loin-cloth is short, folded in horizontal folds, and knotted to the figures left in a looped, pleated fold. It is believed to date to the 16th century. The red velvet-covered cross dates from a later period. More.
