This tool can be used to turn almost any printable object into a printable 3x3 puzzle cube!
I have been playing with this idea for a long time but the Challenge set by Make Anything finally pushed me to complete and share the design! I printed the models on a Dutchy 3D printer borrowed from my work, but any printer would suffice.
The base of the model is a fully printable 3x3 puzzle cube. The special thing about this cube is that it is modelled in a way that all 27 pieces can be printed in place supporting each other due to the 0.2mm clearance all around (thanks Devon!). This decreases the print time and removes the need for any support!
The tool itself (cubify-anything.stl) is a 'negative' of an extended version of this cube (see video): it is essentially a model of the voids. When substracting this negative from any other solid shape you are left with the same shape devided into 27 puzzle pieces! These can be printed, pried apart and reconnected with six small screws.
Keep in mind that the used object should have a solid center and the more spherical/cubic the better.
Stay inspired! (wink)
Make sure to check the slicer preview for a missing layer in between the horizontal pieces! If it ads two or no skipped layers, just play with the layer height between 0.2 and 0.25mm until both horizontal lines are sliced well.
