Dendroformes are a poisonous alien species from the water rich planet, Nero. When humanity first discovered fold space and antimatter energy, there was a huge space race between the biggest corporations on Earth to colonise planets in the Local Spur of our galaxy. There were many resources to be researched and mined, and hundreds of pioneer planets were established.

One of those pioneer planets was Nero, where humans discovered the Dendroformes species. They are docile and friendly creatures that spend most of their time in the water. They also have a paralysing toxin which they use to hunt their prey. The underground pet market was quick to selectively breed these animals to create a type with hardened skin, able to exist outside of the water. This makes them an excellent and very expensive pet with a regular supply of paralysing poison to harvest. Perfect for a space pirate crew, in fact.
