Description
This head probably comes from one of the Lombardy workshops, which worked in close collaboration with the two major building and decorating tasks of the decades AD 1500: the Cathedral of Milan and the Certosa di Pavia. The head appears particularly akin to "the Holy Agnes", also by Briosco, of 1491 (Milan, Museo del Duomo). Some of th esame characteristic features (treatment of the eyelids and eyebrows, skin folds) are found in both heads.
The work was previously attributed to Amadeo, ca. 1447-1522 (Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek), now it is heavily believed to be that of Benedetto Briosco.
