Description
The figures represented on this relief are each accompanied by an engraved name: King Agamemnon stands in front of the herald Talthybios, who is holding a caduceus, and Epeios, architect of the Trojan horse. The scene may represen Agamemnon's initiation into the Mysteries of the Great Gods on the island of Samothrace. The volute behind Epeios is the final curve of a panache on the head of a griffin that formed the edge panel.
