Description
This is a funerary stele with a relief depicting a deceased man. The deceased is portrayed as a middle-aged bearded man seated with his legs crossed and resting on a footstool. He is holding a crutch in his left hand. A smaller figure may be seen in the front, turning towards him. They are shaking each other's right hand, a gesture indicating that they are bidding farewell to each other. This type of stele imitates Attic prototypes. The stele is in the form of a temple and an inscription on the upper part mentions the name and hometown of the deceased.
"Ally, son of Arkesilaos from Andros".
The stele was discovered in Soloi.
