Description
The statue of which this head was once a part may have represented the goddess Hathor, and it was probably commissioned by Amenhotpe III. The artist has produced a work that embodies both the divine power and the beneficient qualities of this goddess by stylizing the natural forms of the bovine head. The glossy finish of the stone surface adds warmth to a piece that is masterly in its technical execution.
