Description
The marble head portrayes a neokoros - a high ranking clerk in the cult of the Greek-Egyptian god Serapis, as signified by the circlet with the seven-beam disc of the sun on it in the portrayed's hair. The sculpture was presumably placed within a sanctuary of Serapis in Egypt.
