This statue was already in the room of the Louvre Antiques section at the opening of the museum, but was not exhibited until after the First Empire under the name of 'Providence'. By placing a globe in his left hand, the modern restorer has made a Urania, a muse of astronomy. The nose, mouth, neck, arms and feet are modern modifications to the sculpture.
