The group, probably ordered to be placed in a fountain in Saint Petersburg, followed the success of the statue, Love lying in Ambush.
The subject shows the influence of a taste that can be generically termed Hellenistic, but mediated through the acquaintance with of the works the Florentine early Renaissance.
