Description
Culture: Neolithic Material: Porcellanite Dims: L 11.8cm, W 4.9cm Accession No: HCA 122 Current Location: The Hunt Museum, Limerick. This axe weighs 296g, has a full oval cross-section, curved symmetrical edges and asymmetrical blade. The blade, sides and faces are ground and polished. The butt is ground. Depressions on one side may indicate [hafting](http://vocab.getty.edu/page/aat/300400680). The edge is sharp. The findspot is Rockbarton Bog, Lough Gur, Limerick. There are two Irish sources for porcellanite, Tievebulliagh, Co. Antrim and Brockley, Rathlin Island. Both utilised in Prehistory. More.
