I've been working, in my Etsy store, developing 3D printed guitar accessories for people who want to make their weapon of choice even more sexy than it already is. Mainly this consisted of pickup covers, trussrod covers, controls and things which could be printed in one piece, but I'd wanted for ages to make custom-designed guitar scratchplates. I started collaborating with a friend of mine who is a guitar teacher, recording artist, session musician and general musical guru (@Philjamesguitar on Instagram, @Tweetpyg on Twitter) who suggested making the plates modular and hiding the join under interlocking pieces; I tried it and it worked!
This is a scratchplate for a 50s Vintage-style Fender Telecaster, standard neck and bridge pickup configuration, and bringing that retro glamour/bomber nose-art vibe to the life of a gigging musician. It's a bit complicated to assemble and I recommend assembling it with epoxy rather than superglue (you can epoxy the parts which don't have anything to do with structural integrity but generally epoxy the rest of it).
This is the first of what I intend to be a range of scratchplates, for different guitars (Stratocaster plates very soon!) and I have to say I'm very proud of it. It is available, printed and assembled, in my Etsy store - www.etsy.com/uk/shop/enterprisexddesign
I'm also more than happy to accept orders for custom-made axe furniture of all kinds. Because guitarists are tarts, and we wouldn't have them any other way
