This torso belongs to a series of ancient replicas of a famous original. In his right hand he raised the jug (or oinochoe) and poured the wine into a cup he was holding in his left hand, not depicted here but in another sculpture by Praxiteles. The perfectly smooth naked body is likely to be based on another sculptor of the fourth century BC (see Apollo Sauroctonus Ma 441).
