Description
This side of a sarcophagus originates from a workshop in Rome, created around the 2nd Century AD. The relief depicts part of the narrative of Apollo and Python; in the mythological story Apollo was born as a product of an affair between Zeus and Leto, intended to be killed by Python under Hera's orders. The avenge this Apollo killed Python, who protected centre of the earth (Omphalos) in Delphi.
