Does your cat like to waste your toilet paper? Yeah, so does mine. So I made this after a few iterations.
Block nosey/bored/"YOU'RE IGNORING ME" cats from picking at the toilet paper
Still allow for easy/otherwise normal access to the roll by humans that may be plausibly accused of ignoring their cats
Printed without supports
Print standing so the layer lines are perpendicular to the toilet paper roll holder
Provide a narrower access port compared to the old versions
Upgrade over previous designs: a hole throughout the shell to allow the roll holder pass through the design. This makes changing rolls easier and should provide more strength versus a cat pulling down on the part.
This is the Mk5, which encompasses a number of upgrades over my previously shared design. The goals are simple:
This is in two pieces to make changing rolls a bit easier while still blocking out side access to the roll by mischevious bathroom goblins. The cap and main body have cutouts continous with the window to provide the user access to spin the roll if necessary in the shell in the event the loose end of paper is inaccessible.
You may need to flip the cap over so the completely flat part is on the print bed, but otherwise it should be easy to figure out how to print. It should be small enough to print as two separate jobs on most printers, but on a Prusa i3 MK3S I was able to rotate the slits to face each other and move the parts around to print both at once.
With my standard .4mm nozzle I did 2 perimeters, .2mm layer height, and 10% infill. The cap's designed with "lips" that go over the main body, and the gap is .4mm to allow a bit of tolerance. I could have tightened it up but I think this provides enough room for those with less accurate printers to still find this easily useable.
