Description
This relief shows mother and child looking graceful from their finely carved throne. The relief was burnt in 1945, so much of the background was lost, but we can still see the subtlety and lightness of the work, especially in the Virgin's veil. The piece was recently restored with the help of a plaster cast from the early 20th century, to make sure that the original composition is preserved.
Antonio was known for creating peaceful depictions of Madonna, and his most famous piece is the decoration of the Chapel of the Cardinal of Portugal in San Miniato al Monte, outside Florence, Italy.
