Description
The image of the emperor, in profile with a crown, is inspired by numerical models of ancient Rome. The gradations of the work in relief refer to the workshop of Mino da Fiesole, or to one of the Florentine artists who towards the end worked in the Eternal City. The work was acquired by Miguel Mai for his residence in Barcelona, according to the news of the post-mortem inventory of his wife. Mai was ambassador of the emperor Carlos 5 before the Pope Clemente 7 and vice-chancellor of the Council of Aragon and, without him, had dealt with the Roman sculptures.
