Description
In Russia resides the so-called “Princess of Urbino”, original carved in limestone but this one is a cast, which may account for some of itsidiosyncrasies in comparison to the marble busts. It is lovely in its details, especially the borders of the bodice and bundlingof the hair, and certainly evokes the style of Desiderio da Settignano, though it is not carved directly by him. It has recently been attributed more plausibly to one of his associates,Pasquino da Montepulciano, or to the young Verrocchio.
