Elizabeth (1596-1662, known as 'The Winter Queen') was the sister of Charles I of England. This bust is a second version of one paired with a portrait of her hsband, King Frederick V, in the collection of H.R.H. the Prince of Hanover. It was one of the first commissions recevied by the sculptor after he had left England for the Hague, where the Queen was living in exile.
