This is the twenty-first edition of the 3D Printing Content Trends Report. Links to previous monthly reports can be found at the bottom of this page. This edition covers the period of October, November and December 2018, and as usual is based on global data from MyMiniFactory over this period. This trends report remains the authority to answer the question "What are people 3D printing on their 3D printers?". Since our 5th Anniversary on 18th June 2018, MyMiniFactory has been operating the Premium Digital File Store, allowing Designers to monitize their content through consumer sales of their digital files, which can be downloaded and 3D printed from home.

Consumer desktop 3D printing is nothing without content, and MyMiniFactory is host to 60,660 published, printable objects as of 31 December 2018 (+4,993 published objects in Q4, or +9.0% since Q3).

This report gives insights into 3D printable object consumption for Q4:

The verticals, categories, top designers, geographical markets, etc. In a quest to help 3D printer manufacturers, 3D design software publishers, 3D designers and other 3D printing industry observers, analysts and commentators to better understand the demand for 3D printable files. We welcome feedback, ideas for new data publication and comments about this initiative: don't hesitate to contact us. Total downloads in Q4 were 1,207,328 (or +23.3% compared to Q3 2018).

Most Popular Categories

Some 45,951 different objects were downloaded at least once across Q4 (which represents 76% of all published objects at 31st December). Below, we have broken down the most popular object categories by number of downloads. The Fan Art category remained #1 in Q4, followed by Home & GardenToys & GamesScan the WorldProps & CosplayGadgets & ElectronicsBoard Games and Education.

Published Designers

The total number of designers with at least 1 object published on their MyMiniFactory profile grew to 12,489 at the end of December 2018.

Top Designers

Below are the rankings of the Designers with the most downloadeds for the entire period of Q4 2018.

The trio on the podium is a popular one: Scan the World tops the list, followed by Devin Montes from MakeAnything and Printed Obsession. We see many designers on this list from the MyMiniFactory Studios Program - the fact that they share their work exclusively to MyMiniFactory means an increase in download numbers.  Many of these top designers have also started selling Premium content on the Premium Digital File Store.
