The Order of Greybone was famed for their nobility, chivalry, and honor on the battlefield in centuries passed. The tragic fall from grace, and subsequent violence they wrought, would be a story to scare children into doing their chores if it wasn’t for the very real threat that the Order of Greybone still poses on the peoples of Mundi Maard.

Once a force for good the order of holy Paladins was sworn to the protection of the people through exploration. Traveling to every corner of the world they hunted for the forgotten power of the last age, the Great Shattering. Following rumor and folklore, the Order searched collapsed sorcerers’ towers and dug up the long-lost tombs of Blood Kings and Betrayer Clerics. Seeking to lock away or destroy the remnants of their dark power, as so keep it out of the hands of those who would look to follow in the Dark Ones’ footsteps.

One such dark crypt would be the downfall of the Order, twisting them into the savage brutes that burn their way across the land to this very day. Few facts are known about the events of the fateful day. Some rumors say a young captain chose personal ambition over her holy vows and took some dark power for herself. Some say a contingent of paladins could not defeat the evil they released on a quest and were overcame by a curse or some such. Others say that contingent was led there into a trap by some duke lusting after the power held within.

Regardless of the whys and wherefores, the consequences are known to everyone throughout Mundi Maard. Those Paladins who had turned away from the light were driven by some primal savagery and enhanced by dark evils, they razed the Order’s fortress to the ground and annihilated every Greybone Paladin, order member, and attendant until only the corrupted were left.

From that day until this one the Order of Greybone has been known as ravagers and raiders, destroyer of villages, breaker of armies, but the next chapter is up to you. Why are the Order of Greybone attacking villages seemingly at random? Why is the Order always eight Paladins and two priests? Are they the same Fallen Paladins who entered the crypt all those centuries ago? Why does the Order attract so many other dark and violent creatures to them?
