I'm an electrical inspector and spend my working time training electricians to install electricity smart meters throughout the length and breadth of New Zealand. Before that I owned and ran an electrical contracting company for about twenty years and before that I taught apprentices and technicians and Manukau Institute of Technology in Auckland. I have several trade qualifications in electrical fitting, advanced trade electrical and NZ Certificate in Engineering: Electronic and computer technology and once worked for a company designing electronic and microprocessor based products. I have restored a dozen or so Volkswagens plus almost as many classic motorcycles. I build gravity racers, caravans, trailers, electric bikes, make lead-light windows, paint and do mosaics, and I design and build 3D printers.
I have built 15 or so 3D printers starting with several Mendel Prusas and a mendel max before designing my own prism style printer I call the OB1 from open beam 15x15mm aluminium extrusion. I developed this further into my second printer the OB1.4 and have published all these designs but I am still using my trusty OB1 printer for all my 3D printing needs. I am now building a larger 3D printer from 20x20mm extrusion that will have a build area of 300x300x300 (1 foot x 1 foot x 1 foot) and be fully enclosed and portable.
