Description
The bust is part of one of the Sekhmet statues that originated during the reign of Amenhotep III of Dynasty 18 (ca 1390-1352 BC). The majority of these statues were created under Amenhotep III's rule and were primarily found at his Mortuary Temple at Kom el Heittan on the Theban West Bank and at the Temple of Mut at Karnak. Believed to heal him from illness and bring good fortune, it is estimated that a total of 730 statues were made, equating to two for each day of the year.
