The villagers have long been overlooked by the city’s elite, who find little value in them since the rise of Automated Undead Labor, a cheaper and more compliant workforce cultivated by Morris Inc. The industry lords only grievance being to pay the tribute to Morris, but even the envious cannot argue against the soaring productivity and burgeoning numbers in their Gouldman's Fare bank balances. With the villagers having little left to offer, selling the old, the enfeebled, the sick, and the young for scraps to Morris' Certified Industrial Preparation program seemed the only viable option for these destitute swamp dwellers.
