These characters are the first in a series of crew members for a greek warship from the times of the Persian, Peloponnesian and Macedonian wars in 1:72 scale. Each pose comes as both left and right hand figures.
Until now I have only done oarsmen for my viking longships, but I soon became fascinated with the fact that the ships plying the mediterranean more than a thousand years earlier had two or three times as many oarsmen on board as the largest viking longship. Two additional characters will be added to this set shortly, and there will be a second, matching set with a slightly different (but equally simple) dress code. Note that these men are not galley slaves and that some do carry knives.
Many thanks go to David Peltzer for his encouragement as well as help with the concept.
The resin prints shown in the pictures here are in base 1:72 scale size (left and right hand side oarsmen) andc were printed on an Elegoo Mars. I also got good results on a FDM printer at 0.4mm nozzle size - less detail, but with appropriate supports a huge army of rowers should be printable in this way at relatively short notice.
