Description
The draped female figure copies a Greek bronze statue from around 460 BC, depicting a goddess (Aphrodite or Demeter). Resemblance to images of deities was popular in Roman funerary sculpture, as the deceased gained a heroic image. The head is a contemporary 2nd century AD portrait of a woman.
