Description
This relief was used as a tombstone to commemorate two sisters. The inscription names the deceased as Sponde and Euporia, the daughters of Agathokles of Miletus. While Sponde is represented as a beautiful maiden, posed and dessed like Aphrodite, Euporia's more modest dress emphasizes her upright civic values. The relief was carved by a sculptor in Athens and likely set up in one of the Athenian necropoleis.
