Leprechauns always have that pot of gold! All you have to do is capture them and hold them hostage until they tell you where it is! Just like anyone else with a pot of gold? I mean if I had to choose between the pot of gold and my life, I’d choose my life too.
Lore-wise, they are generally prone to pranks, and maybe they feel they don’t really deserve all that gold anyway.
