At the end of WWII, the only manned tailless fighter equipped with a liquid rocket engine was developed and produced in Germany (Me163), and remodeled and prototyped in Japan (秋水).
In Japan, the war ended shortly after the failure of the first flight, and it ended incompletely.
The engine uses the propellant (below) that self-ignites by mixing fuel and oxidizer.
・Fuel(C-Stoff, 乙液: "Hydrazine (30%) + Methanol (57%) + Water (13%)",
・Oxidizing agent(T-Stoff, 甲液): "80% hydrogen peroxide solution"
Both were dangerous chemical that were difficult to handle because they were powerful drugs.
The engine names are known as HWK109-509A (Germany), 特呂二号(Japan).
The main components are
[A] Power unit (Turbopump, Gearbox, Starter),
[B] Combustion Chamber (Injector, Combustion Nozzle, Cooling Device),
[C] Metering Unit, [D] Steam Generator, [E] PressureRegulator, etc.
This time, I made a cutaway teaching model for “[D] Steam Generator" with reference to books and public information on the Internet.
A. Features of this model (Steam Generator)
① Oxidizer Spray Nozzles (Operated by T-stoff supplied from Steam Control Valve)
② Catalyst Basket (Store Catalyst for producing steam)
③ Filter (Filters foreign matter in steam and supplies it to Turbopump)
④ Color identification (Light Green: Fuel, Yellow: Oxidizer, light blue: Steam)
B. Assembly Manual (PDF format, total 6 pages)
The detail assembly manual including "Parts-List", "After printing treatment" and "Assembly procedure" are prepared based on "Standard Skill (Filing, Drilling, Tapping and painting)".
C. Purchase Parts Information;
1. Screws
M1.4, M2 - You can adjust quantity and size of screws.
D. STL file
Total STL files are 9 items including the stand and tools.
“ws” of last 2 digits of file name means “With Support” special designed.
E. Total Net Print Time: Approx. 22 HR
- (Estimated as case of PLA, 0.4mm Nozzle, 0.2mm Layer Height, 40% infill and No raft and support)
Note: When at actual print, each parameter may be adjusted by your experience.
F. Printing settings
Raft, Support, Layer Height, Infill: Depending on your experience.
My models were printed by "idbox" using with 0.4 nozzle, 1.75 PLA.
