I was having trouble with the drones on my smallpipes. I needed something more scientific than bits of hollow sticks and luck. I read about "On the Vibrations of Columns of Air in Tubes" and "Effect of wood on the sound of oboe as simulated by the chanter of a 16-inch French bagpipe" and made these drone reed holders. The facing or lay is based on a clarinet mouthpiece with two different curvatures for each drone. They need smoothing and sharpening to a point to fit into the drone body. The reeds were made from pieces of plastic cut from food containers or cards, held in place with small dental elastic bands. I had cooling issues when printing them singly so I printed both reed holders of the same size together to overcome this.
