Design Brief

Welcome to another fantastic competition! This time we partnered with the amazing Devin Montes, aka Make Anything. You've probably have heard of him already but for those of you who are not aware of his work, make sure to pay a visit to his YouTube channel here.

Devin comes from an industrial design background and while attending classes during his design school years, he developed the idea of a tabletop game based on two very simple elements: fun and gravity!

After years spent developing, calibrating and testing the product. Devin is very excited to announce you the release of his first 3D printed tabletop game: Tippi Tree. We would like to celebrate this release by involving you with the design process of this tabletop game.

About Tippi Tree

Tippi Tree is a brand new original game designed specifically for 3D printing. Take turns placing Leaves on top of your Tippi Tree, but don't let it topple! The aim of the game is simple, but you'll find that every round can offer new challenges and surprises.

This stacking game features a unique S-shaped Leaf piece that connects to other Leaves in over 60 unique ways, so every Tippi Tree grows differently. That makes this game fun and challenging for anyone from age 6 to 106.

Great for parties, family nights, desk distractions, and a fantastic gift! Easy to print & play, but difficult to master. Print & Play Tippi Tree today!

Submissions close December 6th so don’t delay! Good luck!

Themes

The goal for this competition is to create a customized skin for Tippi Tree. We’re not looking to change its core functionality but just to give the whole design a different feel. If you ever played a videogame you are probably familiar with the concept of “skin” for your in-game character. What we would like is something similar to the idea of a personalized skin for the main character from your favorite video game.

No 3D design skills required!

That’s right, you don’t need to know how to 3D design for this competition. All you have to do is to download the sheets that Devin prepared for you and draw on them the skin you would like Devin to 3D model.

You can use your 2D printer to print the templates and your scanner to create the image file to send back for the competition. Alternatively, you can simply draw onto the template image using your drawing software of choice. (Photoshop, Illustrator, Gimp, MS Paint)

How to enter the contest

Devin prepared 2 templates for you to use, the Ideation Sheet Template and Competation Entry Template. You'll find them in the Designer Resources section.

Use the Ideation Template Sheet to sketch ideas and generate more designs. When you know what you would like to develop, use the Competition Entry Template to create your entry.

Focus on designing the skin for the tree (the base), the leaves are a functional part of the design and Devin won’t be able to change them according to your design.

Make sure to check the Designer Resources section on this page, you’ll find everything you need to enter this contest, good luck!

At the end of the competition, there will be a one week voting period for you and the community to 'Like' your favorite entry/entries. The submissions with the most votes will win these great prizes:
