Hello everyone, this is my submission for the Cyrcle Phone Design Competition. This was a pretty challenging project but one with a lot of fun.
The first thing I did was print the current model to have a better idea of how would a circular phone work in real-life conditions, I carried it with myself for a few days and asked a few people to pretend they were using it, their comments and use of the phone proved to be vital to my design.
Design
The end goal of my design was to make a phone that was comfortable and easy to use, whether you chose to use it with both hands or just one, the latter proved difficult to do with the original case since it had sharp corners and a bulkier frame that made it difficult to hold with just one hand. The first thing I did to achieve a more ergonomic shape was to rotate and move the battery, this allowed for a much more organic shape on the back of the phone.
The next step was working with the external shape of the phone, I decided to replace the nod at the top and follow a smooth curve along the sides of the phone, the result was a smoother shape that slides easier in and out of your pocket, it also created the necessary space to place the top screws.
One of the most important features of the phone it's its semi-flat bottom, by observing the users I found that most of them used their pinky finger to support the phone when used in vertical.
When using a solid version of the design users agreed that the case was easier to hold, both with one and two hands and more comfortable to carry around.
Thank you for the opportunity and I hope you like my design
Some details, especially the texture at the back of the phone might be lost when printing with FDM if possible SLA, SLS or MJF are recommended
