VR Piperifle Stock (Rift, Quest, Quest 3) UPDATED 29/4/2024

UPDATES:
- 20 mm pipe version of fittings available
- Fix applied to midjoin-- latest version is v8-- fixed a mistake I made updating the part, less overhang printing on the joint portion
Description:
My version of a customizable VR rifle stock. The controllers are meant to be slid in and out of their adapters. I've gone through several generations of design, the included files will be the latest. There are some inherent flaws due to the way they need to be printed which I'm trying to reduce with each iteration. Said flaws are-- the elbows have a stress point at the transition between the connector portion and the sleeve portion, all parts with a pipe clamp on them tend to develop cracking over long periods of time as the printed part ages under tension, the sling ring, in previous versions, was not as bulky and tended to snap- no problems so far with the latest version but I haven't used it for as long so I'm still stress testing it.
HARDWARE:
- 1/2" PVC pipe as the tube sections (~21mm) IMPORTANT Please note that even with tight printing tolerances, the parts have a tendency to twist around the ends of the pipes, to mitigate this, I wrap a piece of duct tape around the end of the pipe for some extra thickness/spongieness. The section lengths I use are 4" (100 mm) and two 8" (200 mm), the shorter goes between the butt and the first handle section
-M5x20 screws and nuts for all the tightening screws
-M5x35 hex head bolts for the knobs (optional)
- 10-24 Bolts/nuts should, in theory, be an acceptable substitute if you're imperially inclined. You may need to run a 3/16" drill bit in all the through holes, though (untested)
Amount will vary depending on how you'd like to set it up for yourself.
Optional parts included:
- Knobs (heads of bolts may need to be glued in-- personally, I use as few knobs as possible as I find them obstructive)
- Picatinny rail section (For use with bipod/ any other accesories you'd like)
- Sling-ring (for using a strap)
- Butt Variations
- Controller adapter variants for the following: Rift, Quest, Quest 3 (Q3 Controller cups adapted from https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:6289919, they print in 2 parts and need to be glued together)
IDEAS FOR THE FUTURE:
- Adjustable butt
- Magnetic controller cups
- More controller variations (will include joint piece for anyone who wants to make their own variant)
- New Rift controller adapter-- been using the same version for 4 years (if it ain't broke) but I want to make a more ergonomic version
For best results, use something with strong layer adhesion and also good tensile strength. PLA works, but it may break after extended use. I'd like to do a carbon fibre nylon print as a test but my printer doesn't support the temps required.
Optimal print settings:
- 100% Infill
- Lots of perimeters (I set my wall count to 15, so nearly the entire part is infilled concentrically)
- Optimize for layer adhesion (ABS, no fan, etc)
