The skull on the belt and the reptile helmet reveal the association of this figure with death. It formed part of an upper wall at the Talol Acropolis (Ek Balam, Mexico), perhaps the precinct and final resting place of the city’s principal ruler. A fantastic creature projects over the entrance to an artificial cave supported by a bench with underworld motifs.
