3D printing industry being a disruptive technology is aiding in manufacturing complex design possibilities and is paving the way for a better future.This technology is a metamorphic gem and this is being symbolized in the design for the 3dprinting industry awards trophy.
MANUFACTURING PROCESS :
The trophy is designed in two parts.One with SLA and the other with MJF.The SLA part is designed to sit inside the MJF part providing the entire trophy a sculpted and singular finish.The MJF part has been designed to show the various finishes it can potray due to the nature of the process.The design for MJF part includes a smooth finish,lattice work as well as a textured surface.Similar to the MJF part the SLA part is designed to potray various finishes as well.The SLA part has a smooth glossy finish to mimic glass.Additionally, it has internal lattice work and microfeatures.Traditionally, making microfeatures and nested parts were tedious.However, with the state of art 3d printing facility manufacturing such designs has become possible and can be made with ease.
The base is to be printed in MJF.A design option of the natural black finish is provided. However,considering the award ceremony being a black tie event bright colours like white would accentuate the trophy for photography purposes.With the various finishing options protolab offers for 3d printed parts the MJF part can be finished with white to be more visually appealing.
Another colour option suitable for the event would be golden yellow for the SLA part and the MJF part can be left at its natural finish.
