The very fragmentary torso represents a Hoplite, Greek infantry soldier in full armour with Ionic helmet and cuirass. This statue made of grey marble was set up as a votive offering in the Heraion of Samos in the late Archaic period. The donor's name is unknown, the identity of the warrior remains open.
