 The story behind everything

Hi, My name is Alex, and this is my favorite project.

Few years ago, because I couldn't find affordable generic nameplates for my miniatures, I started selling nameplates on Kickstarter under the Warg'Name brand.

My will at first was to provide to the community affordable and easy to print by yourselves nameplates for the games who require generic tagging : Bloodbowl, Warcry, Warhammer Quest... And to help some makers adding a personal touch to their project (see Greg Kourakos' 2 kickstarters, Wukong and Pit Fighter)

After a year, I felt greatly dissatisfied.

I kept receiving demands for specific nameplates, and also it still took me a very long time to make all the nameplates for the games, because of the different sizes, the different designs, the different fonts... And mostly because people wanted their mini to be unique (Like I do myself!)

How to solve that?

The answer came from Greg Kourakos and some of my resellers.

Alex, you should stop selling nameplates, but sell templates so that people can make their own nameplates!

And here we are.

What is a nameplate?

Well, while preparing everything, we wondered if everyone might be familiar with nameplates. So this is our 2 cents about it.

Nameplates are little plates that can be flat or curved, made of resin, that you put in front of your miniature base. they are mostly the same height or a little more than the base, and if done well, they follow the base perfectly.

The size of the nameplate is mostly separated between those : a little less than 90° of the base, a little more than 90° of the base, almost 180° or a full ring.

We decided to base our nameplates on around 135° arc.

How complex is it to use?

I will not lie to you : it's not a 2 clics nameplate generator. It's more like a 10-20 clics nameplate maker.

I will basically provide you everything until the very last step so that you can make nameplates with blender. Once the software installed, you will just have to:

  •  choose your nameplate style
  • choose your greeblies
  • choose your text,
  • choose your font,
  • and export. done.

For most nameplates, you don't need to learn anything. Just follow the provided guide. For some advanced models (like carved ones) there are 4-5 more steps and really easy  tricks to follow.

I wanted to make a video to show how it works, but Ben, from the Bonehead Podcast, was faster than me:

That's it.
