This work was built up of many pieces and much was restored in plaster. Since the previous entry the plaster legs have been removed and has been left as a fragmented bust.
On the plinth are traces of an inscription:
On the plinth traces of an inscription:
OA ZH -- AIA2HM AO - - - El.
The complete inscription was as in No. 521.
Heracles, whose ears are swollen like an athlete’s, was
grouped with an animal of which the tail is seen between
his feet. The Cerynitian hind and the Nemean lion have
been considered, but Heracles’ posture would sooner suggest
Cerberus as an appendix. The figure has Lysippic traditions.
