Attica (Greece), acquired in 1898
Marble, around 350 BC
The girl Silenis appears here in the typical costume of the parthenoi, the Athenian unmarried virgins. The long hair in the neck and the cloak covering the back are characteristic elements. A small loutrophoros, the bridal bath vessel, in the pediment symbolically points towards the missed out wedding.
