Olivia Kinnaird (1808-1899) was the elder daughter of the sculptor's Perthshire patron Lord Kinnaird and the elder sister of Arthur Fitzgerald Kinnaird who had modelled for Campbell's The Young Ascanius in 1822. This bust may have been completed in Rome or in London where he opened a studio on returning to Britain in 1830. The style of the bust reveals his appreciation of antique Roman portrait sculpture, a taste shared by his cultured patrons.
