Description
Found in Rigillis Street, Athens. The three slabs, with their Dionysiac motifs, will have formed the revetment of an altar. Slab inv. no. 3497 has a depiction of a panther, Dionysos at the centre, holding a thyrsos and a bowl. Next to him is a nude wine-poorer. At right and left are two figures of winged Nike leading sacrificial bulls, probably to a victory sacrifice after a drama contest. On slab inv. no. 3498 is a scene of Silenoi and Satyrs making wine: two of them at the right and left tread grapes in wine-presses. In the centre, two more carries a calyx krater full of the juice of the grapes.
