Description
Culture: Neolithic. Material: Pelite. Dims: L 15.8cm, W 6.7cm. Accession No: HCA 145. Current Location: The Hunt Museum, Limerick. This axe weighs 478g, has an asymmetrical face, gently curved, asymmetrical edges, asymmetrical blade and rounded butt. The blade, sides, faces and butt are ground but not polished. The sides have remnant flake scars. The edge is blunt, smooth and waterworn. Nodular weathering and exfoliation are evident on both faces. The findspot is Newcastle, Ballymahon, Longford. Pelite occurs across Ireland. More.
