Description
The god Hermes (Mercury to the Romans) is recognisable here by the caduceus fragment in his left hand and the holes for the small wings, now lost, that were originally attached to his head. He holds chlamys, or traveller's cloak, wrapped around his left arm. This work is based on an original from 370-360 BC attributed to Naukydes.
