Description
Material: Maiolica. Accession no: MG 112. Current location: The Hunt Museum, Limerick.
A drug jar (albarello) in maiolica, it is tubular with a slightly concave body, narrower at the foot and mouth. It is decorated with rows of blue and yellow flowers between lined triangles. The decoration is derived from Valencian leaf decoration. There is a inscription in a band across the body: dia galauga, or, galanga. This may refer to a herbal medication for the treatment of flatulence and sea-sickness. 16th century AD.
